Kwinana King of Mining

Thanks to the rising demand in China, and billion-dollar mine expansions, iron ore is launching a comeback.

At the same time, lithium has entered the scene, with WA contributing a third of the world’s supply for the creation of electric cars and batteries.

While this is excellent news for the State and the economy overall, it is also set to have a more localised impact, specifically on the City of Kwinana.

Kwinana is showing early signs of becoming a global processing hub for the production of lithium hydroxide and nickel sulphate, among other raw materials of great value.

Chinese company Tianqi Lithium has already announced a $300 million expansion of its Kwinana processing plant and BHP Billiton’s Nickel West has also flagged plans to expedite its own expansion in the area.

Meanwhile, Kidman Resources and SQM are considering Kwinana as a potential site for its lithium carbonate plant, and Pilbara Minerals also has Kwinana on its mind.

With so much activity coming to Kwinana, there will be an influx of employment opportunities and with new jobs comes the need for new homes.
